What I Wore This Summer in Taos

What I Wore This Summer in Taos

Settling back in at home, after a wonderful month in Taos!

It’s always such a nice break before a new school year, and I enjoy sharing what we do/pack for our stay. I’m notorious for overpacking, but this year I think I did pretty good, bringing mostly versatile activewear layers and comfy shoes. You’ll see that I repeated many of the pieces I brought!

Taos is very casual and we spend much of our time doing fun outdoor activities. The temperature drops in the evening and lasts through the morning, so leggings and light jackets, are needed!

For an overview/extensive list of favorite Taos & Taos Ski Valley spots check out my Taos Travel Guide.

I also created a Taos Summer 2020 highlight on Instagram! (be aware of the New Mexico travel restrictions in place due to COVID before visiting.)

Outfits for Outdoor Activities

Rio Grande Gorge Hike: Great afternoon with my sister and the kids! Started at the Cascabel Trailhead, ended at the Junction Bridge recreation area in Pilar. We didn’t hike out and back. My mom met us there with snacks and we played in the river until it started to get dark!

Williams Lake Hike: An all time Taos Ski Valley favorite. This was the first hike I took my kids on years ago, and it will always feel special. It’s a great one for kids/families. Plus it’s gorgeous, ending at the lake with waterfalls to hike to. We always pack lots of snacks to enjoy together at the lake.

Paddleboarding at Abiquiu Lake: We had a blast, rented inflatable SUPs and spent the day in Abuquiu, NM. This swimsuit is a favorite because it’s super comfortable and has good bottom coverage for active days! I wore my fave Wallaroo hat to protect my face and eyes from the sun. Makes such a difference!

Hiking The Taos Valley Overlook/ Orilla Verde Recreation Area: An easy/moderate hike with amazing views. Enjoyed doing this on a weekday afternoon with the kids and the scenic drive home. We followed the Taos Wild Itinerary from Heritage Inspirations Click and GO tours.

Wheeler Peak Hike: I LOVE this annual tradition! I know this trek to 13, 161 ft (the highest point in New Mexico!) will be a challenge, but the views and family time are worth it! This year it was downright COLD at the peak, and I really could have worn an additional layer, hat, and gloves. But I made it work with what I had! A hydration pack is must on this hike!
